Post Xmas Post

So I've been a little busy. I know there are millions of loyal readers out there that now have nothing to do until school/work starts up again (at least seriously), so I'll see what I can do to keep you amused and/or topped up on random Johnson School stuff...

Today is all about coverletters. We have a huge drop due on 1/2, another on 1/5, and the remainder on 1/12. My girlfriend arrives in Phoenix tomorrow morning, and I will pick her up and head out to lunch w/ my sister and cousin (they live in Phoenix). It's been something like 35 days since I saw her, so...I can't wait.
In the meantime, though, I need to started figuring out why I want to work at these companies, and those reasons need to be different from what everyone else is writing...yay. Really exciting.

I've got about 1/2 of these things done, but I'll need to proofread, revise, and start sending them this afternoon. That is, if I can keep my grandma from dragging me across town for lunch, dinner, and three meals in between (I've been there 4 times in the last 2 days).

What else? I sent out my first email on behalf of the JS Marketing Association this morning, making everyone aware of the UNC Case Competition. That is a sweet deal--we send 5 peeps over to UNC, and they mix match you with students from other schools to form teams--very cool networking opportunities. It should be interesting, some of the sponsors include Microsoft and John Deere (you know I want Deere, since I'm from AZ & TX, yeeeeehaaaaaa!)

So, the pressure is starting to come down on everyone for internships. While statistically almost everyone gets an internship in their chosen field, you never want to be the one person in the last 5 years that doesn't, you know? For me, the pressure stems from my woman. I need to get a good internship at a company I want to work for--with major hope that I'll get a fulltime offer at the end of the summer. If I don't, it will mean I'm job searching next year, which is fine in itself, but if that happens, then my woman won't know which state to take the bar exam in when she graduates in October...which means she'll probably just take it in Texas, and then I'll be the bad guy for making her take it again (unless I get a Brand job in TX, which is highly unlikely, although certainly not impossible). Arrrrgh.

And, of course, I've never been through an MBA job interview before--so I don't really know what to expect. I've done several mock interviews, but much like a standardized test class (I took a series 7 class, and many of you may have taken a GMAT class) it always seems so totally different when you get to the real thing. Just writing this is making the blood pressure go up. :)

Back to the coverletters...
